girls can be tomboys

My book tells the stories of teenagers and young women in their 20s who dressed as men to go and fight. Would they be prescribed gender-changing drugs today? For them the maxim ‘patriotism has no sex’ is more apt. For today’s confused teenagers ‘don’t believe what you read online’. Transitioning is life-changing and not always what you think it is. Medically and psychologically boys and girls keep changing until they are past their adolescence ,past puberty. how can we intervene with this natural development?
None of the young women whose stories I have published wanted to be men, they just wanted the chance to be part of life, not have what Betty Friedan called ‘a half-life’. As one of them, the american Loreta Velazquez wrote it was all worth it” “all the risks to my person and my womanly reputation that I incurred, in being not only a spectator, but an actor, in such a sublime living drama.”
