Day 2 of #WomensHistoryMonth. My 2nd cross-dressing woman soldier to remember. Anne Lavaux,Belgian, born 1622. She enlisted as a soldier under the alias Antoine Atis to fight the French. Heroic in battle she was promoted to cavalry lieutenant. She retired to a convent after 10 years fighting. Nicknamed ‘Bonne Esperance’! She is remembered by as being ‘ a model of piety as she had been a paragon on the battlefield, of honour, bravery and patriotism’. No images of her exist, but she is now remembered.
